Finance and Fintech Capabilities Enhanced | CoCounsel AI Adopted

GPS Legal is strengthening its banking, finance, and fintech offering through a combination of senior hires and the integration of advanced legal AI into its workflows.

We are pleased to announce the expansion of our Banking, Finance & Fintech practice with the addition of three senior lawyers: Cora Ang, Rupen Shah, and Leela Patel.

We have also integrated Thomson Reuters’ CoCounsel AI into our legal workflows, enhancing our ability to deliver complex legal work with greater speed and consistency.

Taken together, these developments reflect a clear focus: combining deep sector expertise with technology-enabled delivery.

New Joiners

We are delighted to welcome Cora Ang as an adviser to the firm. Cora brings real-time, in-market insight into digital assets and fintech regulation. She continues in her role as Head of Legal & Compliance, APAC at AMINA Bank, a crypto-focused bank regulated by FINMA and licensed by the SFC in Hong Kong.

Cora’s perspective is grounded in day-to-day operational and regulatory realities at the intersection of traditional finance and digital assets. She previously held roles at Sidley Austin, Clifford Chance, and J.P. Morgan, and has been recognised in the Legal 500 GC Powerlist (Hong Kong) for three consecutive years.

Rupen Shah, who joined earlier this year, is a seasoned finance lawyer with experience across cross-border lending, acquisition finance, funds, and restructurings involving offshore structures across Asia, Europe, and the Middle East.

Leela Patel rejoins the firm with a strong background in cross-border and project finance, including experience at international firms and ICBC Asia.

Cora, Rupen, and Leela will work closely with partners Brett Stewien and John Koh — both seasoned veterans of technology and financial services M&A, with decades of experience advising on complex, high-value transactions across Asia and internationally — to provide an integrated offering across transactional, regulatory, and strategic advisory matters for financial institutions, fintech companies, funds, and corporate borrowers.

AI Adoption

Alongside these hires, GPS Legal has integrated Thomson Reuters’ CoCounsel AI into our legal workflows.

CoCounsel is a professional-grade legal AI platform powered by leading AI models including Anthropic’s Claude, and integrated with Thomson Reuters’ Westlaw and Practical Law resources. Its outputs are grounded in established legal sources and supported by verifiable citations.

The platform is designed with enterprise-grade confidentiality, including zero data retention and strict controls to ensure client information is not used for model training.

For GPS Legal, this investment supports amore efficient delivery model: reducing time spent on document-heavy tasks such as review and first-pass drafting, while allowing lawyers to focus on analysis, negotiation, and strategic advice.

The difference is not the tool — it is knowing how to use it. Any firm can subscribe to CoCounsel. What sets GPS Legal apart is the deliberate investment in training our lawyers to deploy it with the same precision and judgment that defines everything else we do.

Partner Comment

Brett Stewien comments:

“The arrival of Cora, Rupen, and Leela significantly strengthens our financial services and fintech capabilities. Together with our existing team, we are well positioned to advise on complex, cross-border matters across both traditional finance and the digital asset space.

“Our adoption of CoCounsel AI reflects a deliberate investment in how we deliver legal services. It allows us to handle large-scale, document-intensive work more efficiently, while maintaining the quality and consistency our clients expect. Importantly, it frees up our lawyers to focus on the aspects of a transaction where experience and judgment matter most.”

The result is a combination of specialist expertise and technology-enabled delivery, tailored to the needs of clients operating in fast-evolving financial and regulatory environments.

Please join us in welcoming Cora Ang, Rupen Shah, and Leela Patel to GPS Legal.
